how do i filter contacts that have empty fields?

I have a text field and I used "is equal to"  the value and left the value blank. It worked for me. 

Use: is less than --- the value --- " "              This worked for me

When you are in the Filtering section of the Report Builder you want to build a subset of filters within the filter section. To get this feature, you need to click on the "page" icon that appears next to the + - sign at the end of the Filter Row. Set this Subset of Filters to ANY and then in each of your Filter Rows make sure your [Field] is equal to " " and leave the value field empty.

It is a text field, so null won't work. I need it to find the text fields with no data and pull them.

You don't put "null" for a text field, you leave the box empty.

This does not work anymore!! When I leave a field in the filter empty I still get the record in the report.

If the selection is a drop down, change it to "other" and then leave the last box empty
