QuickBase notification triggering unexpectedly?

Perhaps this is by design, but I think I might be confused. I have a notification that is triggered when added or modified 'when the following fields change'. The only field selected is a checkbox....

It should not trigger as far as I know unless you have the default value for the checkbox to be checked.

Just to update, customer service has confirmed it is expected behavior for a checkbox to be seen as 'modified' any time a record is added, whether or not the checkbox has been checked. I'm not a fan, but that's the answer!
